Kitchen Measurement Guide
Accurate measurements are the foundation of a successful kitchen project
Why Accurate Measurements Matter
Even a small measurement error can lead to cabinets that don’t fit, costly returns, or project delays. Taking the time to measure correctly the first time saves you money and frustration down the road.
What You’ll Need
- 25-foot tape measure
- Pencil and paper (or our printable grid)
- Step stool or ladder
- Camera or smartphone
- Level (optional but helpful)
- Helper (makes it easier!)
Step-by-Step Measuring Instructions
Step 1: Measure Wall Lengths
Measure each wall at counter height (36″ from floor). Record measurements to the nearest 1/8 inch. Include walls with no cabinets — this helps us understand your full layout.
Step 2: Locate Windows & Doors
Measure from corner to the edge of each window/door frame. Then measure the window/door width. Note the height from floor to window sill and from floor to top of window frame.
Step 3: Mark Plumbing & Electrical
Locate sink drain center, water supply lines, electrical outlets, switches, and any gas lines. Measure from the nearest corner to each element.
Step 4: Measure Ceiling Height
Measure floor to ceiling in multiple spots — ceilings aren’t always level! Note any soffits, bulkheads, or beams and their dimensions.
Step 5: Note Appliance Locations
Measure and note locations of refrigerator, range/cooktop, dishwasher, and any other appliances. Include the appliance dimensions if keeping existing units.
📐 Pro Tip: Take photos of your kitchen from multiple angles. Photos help us see details that measurements alone might miss — like existing trim, flooring transitions, or potential obstacles.
