Chapter 10: Why Remote Design Means More Attention on Your Kitchen, Not Less

Chapter 10

What Remote Design Actually Means

Here’s the question I get most often, and I understand exactly why: “How do you design a kitchen without ever standing in it?”

The honest answer is I don’t design it without ever seeing it — I just see it differently than a showroom designer does, and in some ways I see more, not less.

What I Actually Need From You

I don’t need to stand in your kitchen. I need accurate measurements, photos of the space from a few angles, and a conversation about how you actually live and cook. Most of what a showroom designer picks up by walking your kitchen, I get from your measurements and a video call — and I ask better questions because I’m not distracted by trying to close a sale in the same hour.

How Measurements Replace a Site Visit

This is exactly why Chapter 5 matters so much. Accurate linear-inch measurements, wall by wall, tell me everything a site visit would tell me about your layout: what fits, what doesn’t, where the tight spots are, where the opportunities are. A tape measure and a level phone camera get us 90 percent of the way there. The other 10 percent is a conversation, which happens by phone or video, not by me standing in your kitchen holding a clipboard.

What You Actually Get From Remote Design

You get me, full attention, no showroom foot traffic pulling my focus to the next walk-in customer. You get honest answers instead of whatever keeps you in the store another twenty minutes. You get design work built around your specific measurements and your specific priorities, not whatever’s sitting on the showroom floor that week. And you get all of it from anywhere in the 48 states I serve, without needing a showroom anywhere near you.

What Remote Design Doesn’t Replace

Remote design doesn’t replace a qualified local installer putting your cabinets in correctly — that’s still a real, in-person job, and I help you think through who does that part well, whether that’s someone local to you or, in some markets, someone I can connect you with directly. Remote design also doesn’t mean guessing. Every measurement gets confirmed, every layout gets reviewed with you before anything is ordered, and nothing ships until you’ve actually seen and approved the design.

Why I Built the Business This Way

I spent years on showroom floors and behind a contractor’s truck before I built KBR. I know exactly what a traditional kitchen sale looks like, and I know how much of it is genuinely about your kitchen versus how much of it is about closing before you walk out the door. Remote design strips out the second part entirely. It’s just your measurements, your priorities, and my 30 years of knowing what actually works — wherever you happen to live.
